Wine label redesign at Winterhawk!

At small premium wineries, sales and marketing are a big (yet often times unspoken) part of a winemaker’s job. While we know that our wine is unique and quality driven because of our chosen winemaking processes, the northern California marketplace is saturated with wineries claiming the same things, making the market extremely competitive. It is simply not enough to create great wine. The harder part of the job requires that we constantly think of new ways to sell our wine, communicate our story, and find ways to have an edge on marketing our wines.  As a result, we have redesigned the Winterhawk label in order to establish a more branded image and name. The introduction of the new Winterhawk label will be made at our  2008 Sauvignon blanc release party at Winterhawk Winery on Saturday July 18, 2009. I look forward to everyone’s comments regarding the new package and our pioneering efforts in applying the Fish Friendly Farming certification on the back label. It’s a first not only for Winterhawk, but for the wine industry in California!

Don’t change your label!!!! You have the most original, attractrive, eye catching label around, why would you change it? Not only is the label enticing, but then when you taste the wine and it’s even better…you can’t go wrong! Why would you change it? The new design is okay, but the old one is far better! Don’t mess with a good thing!!! If anything maybe just make the lettering of the words “Winterhawk” more bold….

Just my opinion—love your wine, and your label!!!

    Hi Billie,
thanks for your input. We decided to change our brand image after many comments form distributors, marketing professionals, designers, and wine retailers. They all said that we needed to have a branded image consistent with all of our offerings. Having a different bird image with every bottle was not helping us to achieve that. They all said that we needed a clearer, bolder font for the Winterhawk name on the bottle in order to make it easier to read. Yes, I agree we had a beautiful label, but sales have increased with our new releases and I have no doubt that the new brand image is part of the reason why.
